The Figure

Boom Gallery
Thursday 18 JuneSaturday 11 July

Our modern world is saturated with digital media, artificial intelligence and technology. These technologies can represent the human figure and at times distort, manipulate or even enhance the human form. For many thousands of years leading up to this technological leap, artists have looked at, considered, pondered, and depicted ourselves and how we interact with the world around us. These renderings have helped us see and understand ourselves and others in an often complex world.

The Figure is an opportunity to gather together the artwork of nine painters. In this modern technological age, how do these artists approach the figure through paint, colour, composition and mark-making?

The Figure will feature original artworks by Boom artists Hop Dac, Ben Crawford, Louise Tate, Liam Ross Baker, Rebecca James and Phoebe Stone plus introduce to the gallery new artists Ruby Archer, Peter Berner and Lucy Hardie.

Each artist approaches the subject matter uniquely, consistent with their practice and we hope the exhibition celebrates something of what it means to be human.

The Figure will be hung across both gallery spaces at Boom and celebrate different approaches to contemporary portraiture and figurative painting.
