Birds

Neon Parc
Friday 21 OctoberSaturday 19 November

Neon Parc is pleased to present ‘Birds’, a two-person exhibition at Neon Parc City of new work by Aotearoa-based artists Rea Burton and Meg Porteous.

In ‘Birds’, Burton and Porteous use the city pigeon, which congregate outside the window of their shared studio, as a subject and muse for the exhibition.

For ‘Birds’, Burton presents a suite of figurative prop paintings that include zoomorphic portraits rendered in a mixture of paint and pigeon excrement. Porteous presents a series of formal pigeon portraits which are cropped and enlarged, resembling a series of actors’ headshots.

Burton and Porteous presents these two bodies of work alongside a new, collaborative short film titled ‘Nancy Treadler’ (2022), in which they position themselves as directors, casting pigeons and friends as talent, in a theatrical mimicry of the art world the artists occupy.
